Vaccinations / Annual Visit
Your pet’s annual visit consists of vaccines, a general physical exam which includes taking the pet’s temperature and pulse, auscultation of the heart and lungs, heartworm testing, abdominal and lymph node palpation, fecal exam, musculoskeletal evaluation, coat and skin evaluation, examination of eyes, ears, teeth, general orthopedic exam, nutrition counseling, zoonotic disease awareness (diseases passed between people and pets) and review of past medical history.
Behavior Consultation
Dr. G has professional interests in small animal behavioral disorders. Observing and evaluating your pet in the home environment is fundamental to understanding the underlying behavior problem. Let Dr. Geoghegan make sure the problem is not medical, then she can help you determine how to assess and correct your pet’s behavior problem.
Dermatological Exams
Most skin problems can be diagnosed and treated right in the mobile medical hospital. Dr. G uses the latest techniques such as skin scrapings, blood tests and microscopic examination in order to diagnose your pet’s skin problem. After she has completed her examination, she may provide you with a treatment or recommend that you purchase a specific product. Dr. G can also help treat your pet’s chronic ear infection or skin allergy.
Surgery
Routine surgeries are performed in our new state-of-the-art surgical suite. Dr. G performs the highest level of patient monitoring and offers pre-surgical bloodwork before every surgical procedure. Every patient gets one-on-one special attention before, during and after their surgical operations. Dr. G's caring staff is committed to only your pet during the entire surgery. For geriatric pets, or pets with cardiac disease, we suggest an ECG prior to surgery. Some of our routine surgeries include ovariohysterectomy, orchiectomy, laceration repair, lump removals, cystotomy, abdominal exploratories and aural hematoma repair.
X-Rays
Dr. G has added a new radiograph unit to the clinic and uses only the highest quality film, Fuji. X-rays are developed quickly, and on the spot to aid in diagnosis which is invaluable in a life-threatening emergency.
Dental Care
Proper oral care is essential for our pets. If your pet has bad breath, or if you can see tarter on your pet's teeth, he/she needs to have his teeth cleaned. Before cleaning and polishing the teeth, we perform a thorough oral examination in our state-of-the-art dental suite.
If an x-ray is required, Dr. G also offers onsite dental x-rays. To ensure the comfort of your pet, Dr. G administers proper pain control during and after each dental procedure.
Ultrasound
Dr. G has a board certified ultrasound specialist who can care for your pet as needed.
Hospice Care
Like people, pets are living longer than ever. Older pets have special health care needs and they may require more attention than younger pets. As your pet ages, changes occur in his/her physical condition that warrant more frequent visits to the veterinarian. Regular visits to the veterinarian are often inconvenient and difficult to schedule. Dr. G can offer these same procedures in the comfort of your home.
Hospice care includes (but is not limited to) fluid administration, medicating, wound care, laboratory testing and daily evaluations. Geriatric pets or very sick pets often tolerate medical procedures best when they are relaxed.
Post-op Rehabilitation Therapy
Caring for a pet after surgery is sometimes intimidating for an owner. Dr. G can aid the rehabilitation process by making sure the surgical wound stays clean, helping the owner properly move the pet, assisting the owners with hospice care during recovery and daily evaluating the patient during the road to recovery.
Avian/Exotic Pet Environment Consultation
Having an exotic pet (like a parrot or rabbit) is a huge responsibility. These pets have specific requirements with respect to nutrition, housing and emotional needs. Dr. G can evaluate your pet’s environment and make recommendations on how you can improve the quality of life for your exotic friend.
Puppy/Kitten/Pet Consultation
Adding a new pet to the family can be stressful. This stress is increased when the addition is a new puppy or kitten. Adding a new pet can also be difficult if the family has not had a pet for quite some time. The purpose of this consultation is to provide the new pet owners with information about proper pet care. Obedience training, health issues, preventive medicine, seasonal issues, emergencies, pet identification and health certificates are just some of the issues that are discussed. How your children and other family members should interact with your new pet is also discussed. This service is beneficial to everyone and should be a requirement for all new pet owners.
End of Life Consultation
This is one of the toughest decisions a person can ever make on behalf of their beloved friend. Quality of life is most important and Dr. G can help you decide what is best for your pet. She can also offer suggestions to prepare the family for the future loss of their pet.
Euthanasia
Home euthanasia reduces the stress on the pet as well as the owner. This gives the pet and the owner the opportunity to be together in familiar surroundings for the last time.
Referrals
Dr. G works with local veterinarians when pets need advanced medical or emergency care. Since her mobile practice does not include ICU level hospitalization, she has affiliations with several local veterinary hospitals that offer these services.
